FIFA World Cup 2026 Construction Moratorium: What Contractors Need to Know

FIFA World Cut 2026 Construction Moratorium Key Points

FIFA World Cup 2026 Is Coming — And So Is a Construction Moratorium

With Miami selected as one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Miami-Dade County is preparing for an influx of visitors, increased traffic, and major events surrounding the tournament.

To help manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic and ensure emergency responders have unrestricted access, Miami-Dade County's Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has announced a temporary moratorium on construction work and staging activities within portions of the public right-of-way in Downtown Miami, Miami Gardens, and designated mobility corridors. Deliveries and concrete pours are also prohibited within the affected areas.

Moratorium Dates

The moratorium will be in effect:

Beginning: Monday, June 8, 2026 at 12:01 a.m.

Ending: Sunday, July 19, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

This six-week period covers the FIFA World Cup matches and related events scheduled throughout Miami-Dade County.

Areas Affected

The moratorium applies to several high-profile areas, including:

Downtown Miami & Brickell

A designated no-work zone has been established throughout portions of the Downtown Central Business District and Brickell Business Area. The attached county maps outline the specific boundaries.

FIFA Mobility Corridors

Construction activity will be prohibited along designated mobility routes that will be used to move visitors and event traffic throughout the county. These corridors include portions of:

  • NW 62nd Street

  • NW 22nd Avenue

  • NW 183rd Street

as identified in the county's mobility corridor maps.

Hard Rock Stadium Corridor

Additional restrictions apply along the Hard Rock Stadium access corridor extending along NW 27th Avenue and surrounding roadways serving stadium operations and event transportation.

What Contractors Must Do Before June 8

Contractors and utility companies working within the affected areas must fully demobilize before the moratorium begins.

Miami-Dade County requires:

  • Removal of all equipment, materials, and construction enclosures from the public right-of-way.

  • Backfilling of all trenches and restoration with hot asphalt patch.

  • Restoration of all sidewalks to like-new condition and ADA compliance standards.

Failure to comply may result in code enforcement actions and bond claims by the County.

Emergency Work Only

The County will allow only emergency repairs during the moratorium period.

If emergency work becomes necessary:

  • Miami-Dade County must be notified.

  • Emergency permitting procedures will be strictly enforced.

  • Permits must be applied for within 24 hours of the emergency repair.

  • Restoration plans must be provided to the County.

Why This Matters

For contractors, utility providers, developers, and permit holders, this moratorium creates a hard deadline for projects located within affected corridors and event zones.

Projects that are not substantially completed before June 8, 2026 may face:

  • Work stoppages

  • Schedule delays

  • Additional mobilization costs

  • Potential impacts to project completion dates

Planning ahead and coordinating permit approvals early will be critical to keeping projects on track.

GoPermit's Recommendation

If your project is located in Downtown Miami, Brickell, Miami Gardens, or along any of the designated mobility corridors, now is the time to review your schedule.

Waiting until spring of 2026 to begin permitting could leave little room for review comments, revisions, or construction delays before the moratorium takes effect.

GoPermit can help determine whether your project falls within an affected area, assist with permitting timelines, and coordinate with local agencies to keep your project moving before the World Cup restrictions begin.

Questions about whether your project is affected? Contact GoPermit today and we'll help you navigate the process before the deadline arrives.
